The ground was hard under my frail body; I was on some kind of wood floor where, I wasn’t exactly sure and I certainly did not chance opening my eyes. I could tell that the room was fairly dark and I was alone. I tried to move, but found I was unable too, I was so week. How many days have I been gone for? A week? The thought of being knocked out for an entire week frightened me. I couldn’t possibly have been unconscious that long. I tried to clench my left hand but found I couldn’t. I could feel my hand; I wasn’t that numb, so why couldn’t I move it? I tried again and got the same sickening result. What in the world is wrong with me? I shut my eyes tighter and tried to remember how I ended up in this retched place.
I was walking home from a friend’s house, it was late and I took the chance of walking alone. Bad idea. The streets lights were spazzing in the most bizarre way, as if fighting some invisible force. The wind howled loudly, I wrapped my jacket tighter around me. I quickened my pace, I was freezing and scared, I should have just said yes to Laura’s mother’s offer. But no, I’m to stupid to know what’s good for me.
I turned the corner and notice a car parked at the park. It was black and the windows were dark, I couldn’t tell if there was someone in it. I glanced at the park walk way, I could cut through the woods and get home a full ten minutes faster if I took it. I waged my options. Continue down this road where, if I did ever encounter any trouble I could scream for help and be heard and arrive home later, staying in the cold. Or cut through the woods, alone, a night, but be warm a lot sooner. Idiotically I chose to go through the woods, another bad idea. The path was even darker then the streets. I stumbled along with my hands shoved into my jacket pocket. I kept getting the feeling that I was being followed; however, every time I turned around there was nothing, no one there.
I could see my street in the distant and started to jog. I wanted to get the hell out of the woods, it was then that I ran into him. I ran straight into him. I fell back wards and yelped as I hit the ground.
“Careful, we don’t want you broken.” The man I ran into said.
I tried to crawl away but he grabbed my wrist and pulled me upwards. I fell into him, whimpering I closed my eye. I didn’t want to see my attacker’s face, I believe it would have made it all that much worse. His grip on my wrist was so strong that my hand was beginning to go numb.
“ I think I found her.” The man said happily. I heard the sound of breaking branches and another man appeared. I got to see this one. He was tall, had dark hair and blue eyes. He was wearing a black zip up hoodie and dark jeans. I hate my self for thinking this, but he is rather handsome.
“You sure? I don’t want a repetition of last time.”
“Yes, I’m sure. Can’t you feel it? There is no way she isn’t it. Now lets go before someone sees us.” I was so frightened I was unable to respond. The last thing I remember from that night was the man holding me with the most sickening smile I had ever seen.
And now, here I am. Who knows how long it’s been since that night. I still don’t know what they were talking about or why they took me in the first place. What’s so special about me. I’m short, incredibly awkward and just about the most accident prone person on this planet. I’m not a grand beauty either, no one notices me at my school. I’m just Kaelyn. Nothing special, nothing enticing, nothing worth taking.
I shifted to the side to try and get more comfortable, which seemed to be a luxury that is currently unattainable.
“I see you’re awake.”
Shit. I’m not alone. I didn’t move or respond, maybe he’ll think I moved in my sleep…
“Don’t pretend, I know you’re awake.”
Splendid.
I heard the man’s footsteps, one. Two. Three. Four… till they stopped beside me. he bent down and peered at me. “Why don’t you open your pretty little eyes and look at me. I’m not that scary. I was not going give him the pleasure of seeing my eyes.” Instead I used up all the strength I had and rolled myself onto my stomach. I heard him growl in annoyance. His hands grabbed the side of my shirt and rolled be back onto my back. “feeling rebellious?” I didn’t answer. “being brave? Well, we’ll see how brave you are when I come back. Miguel come here.”
Footsteps echoed arcos the room, I wasn’t aware of anyone else being in the room. “I want you to keep an eye on her. She cannot leave this place. And she mustn’t be harmed… to badly.”
Even with my eyes shut I could see the smirk on the man’s face. I heard more footsteps then the sound of a door closing. “Is he gone?” I asked quietly, for some reason I trust this Miguel guy, it has something to do with his name, I just can’t picture a person with that name harming anyone.
“Yes” he finally answered.
I leaned up and finally opened my eyes. The first thing I saw was Miguel. He was no older then me. He was close enough for me to just barley make out what he was wearing. He was dressed in regular clothes, which actually surprised me, I don’t know why. His shirt was red with some company logo on it, it has half hidden by a black zip sweater, and he wore blue jeans. His eyes are a light colour, possibly silver or a pale blue and he has messy brown hair.
He looked familiar which made me smile, getting a puzzled look in return. “what?” he asked looking over his shoulders.
“Nothing… Where am I? and who are you?”
The boy didn’t respond at first. He glanced at the door, then to the sealed windows. “I can’t tell you where you are.” He said quietly. He moved closer and whispered in my ear. “The only way out of here is that door.” I looked at it, longing to get out of here. “it’s well guarded, I’m not supposed to speak to you. My job is to make sure you don’t do anything stupid.”
I looked him in the eyes, “what qualifies as stupid?”
He didn’t reply and I knew what he was talking about. He meant suicide. “Can I at least know what country I’m in, and if I’m under ground or not.” I glanced at the windows high on the wall, I wish they weren’t covered. The dark is scary enough, but being draped in a dark room who knows where is indescribable.
“Germany” Miguel answered quietly.
“Germany?” He cannot be serious.
“Yes. Germany” he kept glancing back at the door.
“Are you from here?” I desperately want to keep up a conversation with this guy, it’ll make me a little less paranoid.
“No… I’m not even German.”
Well, that’s a shocker. “Where are you from?”
He didn’t answer immediately. Glancing at the door, he replied nervously. “Try to keep your voice down. I’m not supposed to be speaking with you. I’m British.”
“You don’t even have an accent.”
“I lost it a long time ago.”
“Who brought me here?”
I’m actually surprised by how much he’s telling me. You’d think that if he’s keeping watch over me he would just ignore me. Or, maybe he’s supposed to be telling me all this, to gain my trust then bam! No more Kaelyn… I’m going to have to watch what I say, and do.
“Who are ‘Them’?” I may not be able to trust him, but I know that I can at least get some information from him.
“People, I think I’ve told you enough. Besides, Nial will be back soon. If he catches me speaking with you… well let’s not think about that.”
I laid back down where I woke up. Staring up at the ceiling, I began to cry. Was I ever going to go back home? Are my parent’s looking for me? What will happen to me. I’ve never ever been in a position like this, and I never dreamed of it either. You hear about abductions on the news all the time. Read stories about it, but you never think, ‘that could be me’. I should have let Chelsea’s mom drive me home. Why did I have to be so stubborn. Life’s not fair. I don’t want to die like this, alone. Well, I wouldn’t be alone, if I died in this room Miguel would be here, but that’s beside the point.
I snapped my head to the side when I heard the door open. I could see a figure standing in the door way, but because of the lack of light I could only see the silhouette. He was rather tall, and had a shaggy head of hair that looked windblown.
“Is she awake?” the person in the doorway asked, the voice defiantly belonged to a man, I wonder if it’s Nial.
“Yes. She woke not long after you left.”
“Wonderful, get her dressed then bring her down, I want everyone to meet our new guest.”
My heart clenched at the way he said guest. Something about the way he was talking made very anxious about what I was being thrown into. I felt Miguel’s hands on my upper arms as he raised me. “sorry about this.” He whispered as he put me onto my feet.
“Wh-who am I about to meet?” I asked my voice breaking.
“Some people.” He grabbed my wrist and directed me out of the room.
The door led to a basement living room. The ceiling was rather low, which meant that whatever building I’m being captive in is old. Miguel has to duck his head to get around. I, on the other hand, had no problem, considering I am a little on the short side.
He led me up the stairs into a very bland hall way. The walls were painted white the floors were dark wood and the crown moulding was the same kind of wood as the floor. He led me into the second door to my right and shut the door. “this is your room.” He let go of my arm and stood in front of the door.
He stared blankly at the wall. I stepped away from him and look at him closely. He was a very handsome boy with a few freckles on his nose, he had a good complexion and his eyes were mesmerising. Silver in the middle going to a light blue on the edges, they contrasted with his dark brown hair making him seem unrealistic. “why are you looking at me like that?” my face turned scarlet and looked down at my feet.
“You’re eyes…” he looked strait at me, it felt as if he could hear my every thought, know everything I’ve every thought of. “ they’re like nothing I’ve ever seen before…” Which is completely true. I’ve never seen eyes such like his.
I sat on my bed and examined my room. It was a fairly large room. It had two queen size beds, both with chocolate coloured bed spreads. The walls were beige and the ceiling had, what I presume, is the original modeling. In all, it’s a very beautiful room. “So… why are there two beds?” I thought aloud.
“Because this is my room as well.” Miguel said with no emotion as he walked over to one of the wardrobes and took out a dress shirt and pants.
“Why am I sharing a room with you?” This doesn’t make sense. Shouldn’t they keep the boy away from the girl.
“Because I’ve been assigned to watch over you. And, well there aren’t any other rooms available.”
“Let me guess. Nial kidnapped to many people for the amount of rooms he has.”
“No” Miguel answered quietly. I raised my eyebrow in question waiting for his response. After a fairly intense staring contest he finally answered me. “There are a lot of people here. Yes Nial has taken-”
“Kidnapped” I corrected.
“kidnapped.” He glared. “Some people, both male and female… but he let them go a few days later.”
“So, I can go in a few days?” I asked happily.
Miguel got up and walked to the window. He opened the thick drapes (that matched the bedding), he stood there for a few minutes before replying. His little pauses are making me insane. “no.”
My heart sank. “why?”
“Because... Get dressed, there are clothes in the dresser. The one across from your bed.”
I walked to the dresser and opened its large doors. One side had with lavish dresses on it. I gasped, I’ve only seen dresses this fancy on the Tv. I opened a few of the draws; one held bras, another panties, another with socks and nylons. The last two held shorts and shirts, camisoles and sweaters. “They should all be your size. If there is any problems there’s a seamstress on the second floor.”
“Who got all of these, and how did they know my size.”
“Let’s just say, Nial knows a lot of people, and when he does something, he makes sure he does everything right.”
I picked a dark green dress and laid it out on my bed. I sat on my bed and looked at Miguel.
“Well, what are you waiting for?” he asked impatiently. “get dressed!”
“For you to exit the room. There’s no way I’m changing in front of you. I don’t even change in front of my mother.”
“It’s not as if I will look. You don’t have much to hid anyways.” He grunted. And sat on the bed.
Discussed with him, I grabbed a pillow and shot it at his head. Having pretty good aim, I hit my target. “What was that for!” he said getting up, pillow in hand.
“For being a prick.”
“I was just telling you the truth, aren’t people supposed to be honest?”
I gave him the dirtiest look I could muster. Turning so that my back was away from him, I took my shirt off. “you sure your not just trying to shame me while you’re no bigger then a toddler?” I took off my pants and slid into the dress.
During all this Miguel didn’t say a word. “could you help me zip up the-” I turned towards him holding up the front of my dress. “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?!?!” he was standing there, with his pants and boxers at his ankles. I tried to keep my eyes locked with his but they kept going down. Involuntarily, of course.
“Not so small is it?” he said smirking.
“Pull up your pants for crying out loud!” I said turning beat red. He smiled and approached me, his pants still down. “Uhh. What are you doing?” I asked taking a step back.
“Coming over to do what you asked me to do. Zip up your dress.”
I took another step back, bumping into the bed. He got closer and I as I tried to back away I fell onto the bed. I began to panic. I was, unfortunately, an easy prey. I had virtually nothing on, my dress half done up. And he well, was free to the world, so to say. “You are not touching me until your pants are up, zipped and belt in place!”
“You’re so fun to scare.” He said laughing as he zipped his pants. “Now turn around so I can zip up that dress of yours.”
I getting up I found myself way to close to him. There was less than an inch between us. “Could you, erm…” I stuttered.
Looking down he grinned, “I little close for comfort?” he smiled.
You think? I thought. Reading my face he backed way. “now turn around. Nial is going to be mad at how long you’re taking to get ready.”
“How long I’m taking? I’m wasn’t the one harassing me with your little friend, thank you very much.”
“My apologies, I thought I might as well set you right, after your comment and all.” He closed the clasp at the top of my dress and ran his hands down the back sending chills through my body. “Done. Now, wait for me to get changed and we can introduce you to everyone.”
I sat down on my bed and thought about my situation. I’m being held captive that is for sure. I can’t think of any motive for it though. I’m not exceptionally pretty and you can’t say I’m exactly gifted with certain assets. It just doesn’t make sense. I’m not some young super geniuses either that can help him solve some crazy scientific problem. The only possible reason i can think of would be as a revolt against the church, considering my mother is head of our state. But even then, taking me won’t change anything.
I groaned and fell back onto the bed, the ceiling had those old mouldings on it. They badly needed to be cleaned. A lot of the stuff I’ve seen in this building needs to be clean and restored. Maybe that’s why I’m here. To do the cleaning. But that doesn’t explain why he has me all dressed up. A dress as long and big as this is in no way good for cleaning. It’s hard enough to move around in as it is. I can’t imagine moving around in it a lot, let alone cleaning. “Hey, Miguel, I don’t have to go up or down any stairs do I?”
He had just put on his dress shirt, which was the same colour as my dress. I wonder if he’s supposed to escort me to what ever we’re going to; that would provide a good way to keep an eye on me I guess. I caught him at the moment where his whole chest was exposed. “Hmm, I think you should go to the gym, you’re starting to get pudgy.” I laughed, he was actually pretty well toned.
“you might want to go on a diet, you ass looks like it’s about to explode out or your dress.” Frowning I shot a back glance at my ass. It isn’t that big. “And yes, we will be descending stairs. So try not to fall. That’s the last thing we need.”
Sighing I fell back onto the bed. This was just great. “Hey, wait, don’t I need shoes?” I shot back up and lifted a very bare foot into the air.
“They’re over here, in my wardrobe.”
Carefully, I walked over and opened the wardrobe, there were also more shoes then I expected there to be. “Uhh, what ones would you suggest…” I said looking at them nervously, scanning for the shortest ones I could find. They all looked pretty high to me.
“Well, black or silver. They’re all the same height so you might ass well go by which ones best suit your dress.” I stood they looking over them, they all looked very frightening, and all could easily be considered a deadly weapon, long thin points. If I were to hit someone hard enough with one multiple times I’m pretty sure I could wound them seriously enough. Miguel finished buttoning his top and grabbed a random pair of black stilettos. “Here, these will do. Hurry and put them on. We’re late.”
